Dr. Formal is a NY, NJ and DC licensed Clinical Psychologist and NY State Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, Master Counselor (CASAC, MC.). Dr. Formal received his BA in Economics, Psychology & Philosophy from Rutgers University in New Jersey and his MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University in New York City. He has trained and worked in a variety of treatment settings throughout New York City including hospital inpatient and outpatient units, a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), a full-service HIV+ outpatient clinic, a college counseling center, a dual diagnosis (mental health and substance use) clinic, and has administered a variety of psychological and neuropsychological assessments.
Dr. Formal is currently working both in person and remotely as part of a group private practice in New York City. His current professional areas of focus are working with patients struggling with anxiety, trauma, substance use and disorders. He is also passionate about working with elite athletes. He was a part of the medical team for the 21st Maccabi Games in Israel as a Team USA psychologist as well as works directly with individual athletes in his group practice.
